As the curtains at the Alnwick Playhouse are due to come down next month, ready for its big refurbishment, Alnwick and District Camera Club has been in to take photos of the venue as it is now.

And these images form the current and last exhibition at the theatre before it closes on August 2.

The £2.5million refurbishment of the Playhouse will secure its future and see not only a new and improved theatre, studio, bar and extended cafe, but also Northumberland County Council bringing in its Tourist Information Centre, library and customer services.

And with transformations being made, Alnwick and District Camera Club was given an access all areas pass to capture life before its closure.

Theses images show the auditorium, studio and other areas of the Playhouse, which sometimes aren’t seen by the public.

They capture the essence of the Playhouse as a venue to access arts, but also as a community facility and a part of Alnwick life.

The images will be on display in the Bondgate Gallery at the theatre until it closes and when the Shakespeare’s Globe on Tour performances take place on August 11 and 12.

To see the photographs visit the theatre during opening hours between now and August 2. The Playhouse is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and Saturday, 10am to 2.30pm.
