A company run by a talented north Northumberland dancer is about to embark on its spring tour, which takes in a number of North East venues and a date in Paris.
Among the dates by the Eliot Smith Company (ESC) are performances in Warkworth next Saturday, Berwick on Saturday, March 14, and Bamburgh on Saturday, April 11.
The North East-based contemporary dance company’s tour is funded through self-generated income and features three works including a specially reworked solo of Eliot’s latest work, Inner Retrieval, which was originally funded by Arts Council England.
The other two pieces are Of Gods and Men, premiered in 2012, and an improvised work.
The tour will include a performance in Paris at the well-known Paris Marais Dance School.
Eliot and his dancers have been offered a full scholarship to study the Martha Graham Technique and Balanchine Ballet there, which is delivered by world renowed artist, Maggie Boogaart, who is also ESC’s international dance patron.
Early last year, Eliot was awarded a full grant from Northumberland Youth Enterprise Award to purchase stage lighting for the company.
Further to the growing success of his company, which he set up when he was just 14, Eliot was made a business ambassador for Northumberland County Council to inspire other young people in the stories.
In 2012, the distinguished dancer and choreographer won a place and part-scholarship at the famous Martha Graham School, in New York.
