Long established as the principal summer show for the village of Rothbury and its surrounding area, the Simonside Country Fair takes place again this weekend.

With a dog show, horse and hounds display, birds of prey and the World Championship International Egg Throwing competition, the fair is once again set to be a success.

It takes place on Sunday next to the Gate pub at Forestburngate.

There will be the usual make, bake and grow competitions, as well as children’s sports, vintage engines, fell racing and much more to boot.

Entry is free, but donations are appreciated.

All proceeds go to local charities and good causes.

Last year the event raised around £5,000.

Fair chairman Jamie Whicker said: “We hope to do even better this year, helped by a superb mix of traditional country fair favourites, as well as one or two new attractions to entertain and delight our visitors.”
