Communities groups are being asked to use their imagination to come up with novel ideas of taking a large county flag from one village to another in a relay from Lynemouth to Berwick.

Judy Cowen of Bamburgh WI said: “They want each village to do something spectacular in the way of moving the flag from one area to another.

“Bamburgh WI will be happy to carry the flag from Seahouses, dressed up as puffins because we’ll be using Puffin Way.”

The recently built footpath links Bamburgh with Seahouses and looks out towards the Farne Islands, home to over 43,000 puffins.

Judy also revealed that Beadnell is planning to carry the flag to Seahouses on a skiff, a shallow, flat-bottomed open boat, weather permitting.

Northumberland Day is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 24.
