Rehearsals are under way at the recently refurbished Alnwick Playhouse ahead of a concert to celebrate 25 years of the Alnwick Playhouse Concert Band.

Whilst the old Lindisfarne School had provided temporary accommodation over the past year, members agreed the homecoming was welcome.

Under the baton of conductor Ray Thompson, the anniversary concert on March 7 will feature a number of the band’s favourite pieces including ‘Musket, Fife and Drum’ (the theme music to Soldier, Soldier) and the Tyneside Song Suite.

Also included is a specially commissioned piece, ‘March Prelude – Alnwick Town’ by Philip Sparke.

The concert band is always ready to welcome new players and should anyone, who is Grade 4 or above, wish to join they should go to Alnwick Playhouse on Monday evenings at 7.30pm or get in touch with secretary, Kate Pringle, at alnwickplayhouseconcertband.org.uk
