Young Harrier Peter leaps to success in Scotland

SCOTTISH Athletics’ National Open took place on Saturday at the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena, Glasgow. Competitors included the Scottish hurdler and Olympian Allan Scot, who clocked a 60m hurdle win with a time of 7.85s, and the UK U20 high jump champion Allan Smith, who won with a 2m 10cm clearance.

Thirteen-year-old Peter Skirrow competed for the first time in the new IAAF compatible age categories, in both the U16 60m hurdles and the U16 high jump.

A new personal best 60m hurdle time of 11.07s saw the young Alnwick Harrier finish a respectable third.

And another personal-best performance in a closely-matched high jump competition saw the youngster go one better to finish second.
