Bamburgh Castle (157 all out) v KSTOB (161-7)
Bamburgh had mixed fortunes last week, beating Benwell Hill on Wednesday by five wickets and losing to King’s School Tynemouth Old Boys by three wickets on Sunday.
Winning the toss at the weekend, Bamburgh opted to bat and found the going tough against some tight bowling from Brian Dent and Ian Black, and were soon in trouble at 30 for 2 in the 12th over before Spike Strange joined the returning Tom Lakey and started to rebuild the innings.
The pair took the total to 88 before both fell in quick succession, Lakey first for a fine 41 and Strange for 17.
Bamburgh then lost a further four wickets for 38 runs in eight overs.
Steve Mallinson (a fine 20) and Ryan Kelly then had a cameo partnership of 24 in three overs before the innings ended in the 40th over with the total a disappointing 157 all out with three balls left.
Bamburgh had the King’s School 36 for 3 after seven overs before Adam Black joined skipper Peter Coyne at the crease and decided to take the attack to Bamburgh.
Despite losing Black for 15, Coyne anchored the innings and Bamburgh were unable to dismiss him until the Old Boys were 20 short when Ryan Kelly trapped him lbw for a fine match-winning 72. The Old Boys completed their win in the 35th over by three wickets.
