people, led by Noel Hodgson and Bill Ferguson, did a brilliant job in refurbishing the courts and reviving the club.

A club spokesman said: “Wooler Tennis Club is still going strong, with a clubhouse and newly laid courts improving the facilities for future generations of tennis players!

"Social events, club nights and coaching (junior and adult) all add to the fun.

"Although covid restrictions have meant that any big gatherings / parties will be

pushed into 2022, we will be marking the Centenary this year. Keep your eyes open around town, social media and the website for more information. I’m sure you’ll agree, 100 years of Tennis in Wooler is well worth celebrating.”

ALNWICK TENNIS

Alnwick Tennis Club has also restarted for the summer season.

The club has a full-time LTA accredited coach. who provides year-round group and individual coaching to all ages and abilities.

There is a general club play session, open to all, on Wednesday evenings (floodlit on the dark nights) and two sessions for over 55s on Monday and Friday mornings.

The club welcomes players of all ages and all abilities from beginners to experienced team players and they can participate in one of several teams

which complete in the Northumberland and Durham leagues.

Alnwick Tennis Club is based in Prudhoe Street, next door to the Police Station, and a few years ago they were able to resurface the three hard courts and install floodlighting. As a result, members enjoy excellent playing facilities which can be used all year and are amongst the best in the County.
