SG Wealth Management Northumberland Cricket League, Premier Division
ALNMOUTH and Lesbury firsts finally got their season under way with a home game against Blyth on Saturday.
Batting first, Blyth were soon in trouble as Nick Denton and Callum Batey removed both openers with the score on 23.
Ben Oliver then tore out the middle order to reduce the visitors to 77 for 7.
David Dent offered some resistance on his way to 37 before he was last man out with the Blyth score on 147 in the 43rd over.
Oliver finished with fine figures of 5 for 29 and Nick Denton with 3 for 35.
The Alnmouth openers, Ian Pearson and Paul Straker, batted positively from the start and put on 52 before Pearson was bowled by Mark Lawrence.
Ian Clough followed some afterwards, which brought captain Tom Vickers to the wicket.
Straker and Vickers batted confidently scoring quickly in an undefeated partnership of 82 to see the home team to an eight-wicket victory in only 35 overs.
Straker finished on 56, his first half-century for the club, which included nine fours, while Vickers hit 45 off 60 balls.
A promising start by the Seasiders who head north to Berwick for their next fixture.
