Windswept juniors just pipped at the post

THE annual match between the men’s league and the juniors got under way at Warkworth at the weekend in windy cold conditions that made it seem like winter rather than spring, with the men just beating the juniors by one win.

Every match was completed before the heavens opened – all players were safely inside enjoying a fantastic Sunday lunch.

Despite the weather, Warkworth was in excellent condition and everyone commented on how quick the greens were despite the weather.

Although the men won the match the quality of juniors on display shows we have strength in depth in our league and bodes well for the coming season.

Results: Men 10pts Juniors 8pts: P Basford beat T Dodds; J Eggleston beat J Stevenson; B White beat L Ramsey; R Balmbra lost to C White; JJ Evans beat E Basford; P Cochrane lost to D Kerr; T Dodds lost to L Cochrane; J Stevenson beat S Eggleston; M Lynch lost to L Denny.

l New sponsors have come forward for the North Northumberland Junior Golf League annual knockout cup competition open to all clubs each year, with the current holders being Linden Hall.

Fairway Restaurant, based at Rothbury Golf Club and run by Jackie Winch and Liz Syron (seen below handing a cheque to the chairman of the league Tom Cowie), who took over the catering at the club last year and have in a short time gained an excellent reputation for good food.

As well as supporting the knockout cup they are committed to supporting the Rothbury junior team as well during the season.

The league wishes to thank the Fairway Restaurant for its support this season and wish Jackie and Liz all the success for the future.
