TEN sporting stars from Alnwick and district have been short-listed for the fourth Northumberland Gazette Sports Personality of the Year Award.

A mixture of personalities throughout the area have been chosen to recognise both achievement and commitment.

In the running for the 2010 gong are runners Laura Weightman and Jim Manford, footballers Lucy Bronze and Lucy Staniforth, equestrian star Gemma Gibson, surf kayak champion Tamsin Green, golfer Jake Storey and gymnast Sam Dronsfield.

Alnwick Cricket Club stalwart Bobby Dodds and angler Lucy Bowden have been chosen for their service and dedication to sport.

But only one can be crowned champion.

And it is up to you, the reader, to decide who lifts the prize, by nominating your overall sports personality.

A postal vote is being run and closes at midday Friday, January 28. The nomination form is in this week’s Gazette.

The award will be presented at the Alnwick & District Sports Council Annual Awards Night, which will be held at the Alnwick Playhouse, on Saturday, January 29.
