Warkworth beaten as Berwick avoid relegation

Warkworth 1sts completed their season in the Northumberland Premier League with a nine wicket home defeat at the hands of Berwick 1sts. It was a result which meant the visitors avoided the relegation drop-zone.

Warkworth batted first, but they were struggling at 46-5, and it was only knocks of 42 from Martin Clark and 33 not out from Steven Anderson which gave their innings any respectability, ending on 138-7 in 30 overs. Elliott Keenan took 3-52 with James Thompson and Mark Woodcock taking two wickets apiece.

In reply, Berwick rattled off 142 for the loss of only one wicket in 18 overs with Keenan on 68 not out and Woodcock on 66 not out.

Warkworth 2nds faced Monkseaton 3rds away on Sunday, but the game was abandoned in the 19th over due to rain with the visitors on 49-1.

Warenford went down to a seven wicket defeat on their trip to Whitley Bay 1sts. In a low-scoring match, Waren batted first but they only managed to put on 72. Whitley then chased the target down in 20 overs with 73-3.

Wooler finished with a five wicket home win over Alnmouth & Lesbury.

Alnmouth batted first and put on 107-9 with Nicholas Robertson their top scorer on 18. Andrew Aitchison took 4-18 and Colin James 3-15.

In reply, Wooler hit 108-4 in 27 overs with Andy Gallivan on 35 not out and opener Michael McLean on 31.

Embleton ended their season with a three wicket home win over Tynemouth 3rds.

Gary Davison was 47 not out and Matthew Leetham on 30 as Embleton posted 130-5.

In reply, Chris Grieveson opened up with 38 for Tynemouth, but with John Wilkin taking 5-22 they ended on 128-7 at the end of their 34 overs.

Rock ended on a winning note with a 64 run victory at home over Ulgham 2nds.

Oliver Page top scored with 32 and Stephen Gray hit 27 as Rock made 125 all out, eith Terry Charlton taking 4-21.

Ulgham’s top bat was Stuart Davison with only 13 and they were reduced to only 61 with Page taking 3-7.
