Alnwick 7 Ilkley 31
North One East
A promising start for Alnwick failed to follow through when the blue and golds went down at home in their first league game in three weeks.
Fifteen minutes in, James Bird hit the post from a penalty. Five minutes later, another penalty went just wide.
Alnwick were first off the mark though when Bird got a try and conversion in his 100th appearance for the club.
Not long before half-time, a sleepy Alnwick defence allowed an Ilkley break to level the score at 7-7. Another score from the Yorkshiremen and the half-time tally was 7-14.
Despite an Alnwick fight-back, Ilkley turned the screw to take the final score to 7-31.
Alnwick’s next game is away to Horden on Saturday, February 21.
