Rochdale 16 Alnwick 13
North One East
Alnwick took Rochdale to the wire today and were unlucky not to taste victory away from home.
The blue and golds travelled to Greater Manchester on the back of a comprehensive win against Wheatley Hills last week.
The visitors went into today’s game four places behind their hosts and were unlucky not to come away with the points.
It wasn’t just Alnwick’s play which impressed the home side.
The club made a £1,000 donation to the Tom Thornton Trust, a fund set up to help the young family of the former Rochdale player, who died at the age of 25.
Tom Thornton was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer and died just a month after his first child was born.
The trust fund, which aims to help his wife Chantelle and son Maxwell, raised an amazing £25,000 at its inaugural fund-raising event, a sportsman’s dinner, two weeks ago.
In a tweet after today’s game, Peter Carey, from Rochdale RUFC, thanked Alnwick for its contribution to a great day of rugby and £1,000 to the fund.
