Turn of fortune

Rothbury Bowling Club

WITH the season now past halfway, the club is performing well in the Clegg League Division Two.

Since June 15, when Rothbury had won three and lost three of the first six matches, a good run of results has seen the club now challenging for promotion.

Recent results: Rothbury 7 Westerhope 7, Rothbury 12 Heaton Victoria 2, Percy 4 Rothbury 10, Walker 4 Rothbury 10, Rothbury 12 Alnwick 2 and Rothbury 10 Collingwood 4.

Unfortunately, this run of six matches unbeaten came to an unexpected end with a rearranged home match against Percy when the visitors played exceptional bowls.

Next Saturday sees Rothbury competing in the final of the Challenge Cup at Alnwick.

Results in the North Northumberland League have not been very good and hopes of achieving a third successive title are fast fading.

In the last month, a number of enjoyable friendly matches have been played against Alexandra Park (Cramlington), Morpeth Vets, Hexham House, Northumberland HVPs and Bomarsund.

Unfortunately, membership of the club is dwindling and the committee has decided that anyone wishing to join can do so free of charge for the remainder of the season.

A club spokesman said: “If you have been considering taking up this enjoyable sport, there has never been a better opportunity to do so. Come along and you will be made most welcome.”
