Ten wicket win for Alnmouth cricketers in league
Alnmouth & Lesbury 1sts had a big ten wicket home win over Newcastle City 1sts in Division 1 of the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League on Saturday.
Newcastle batted first but they were all out for only 60 with Zohaib Khan their top scorer on 21, Dushan Hermantha taking 5-22. Alnmouth chased it down in at 61-0 in 16 overs with Paul Straker on 37 not out and Jonathan Craig’s 21 not out.
In Division 2, Alnwick lost by 55 runs in their visit to Etal to face Tillside 1sts. The home side were 134 all out with and tail-Enders Jamie Pick (23) and Gareth Hill (33) saving the innings, Hugh Tyler having earlier made 24. Jonathan Roxburgh took 4-41 for Alnwick, who in reply were 79 all out with Max Harrison on 24 and Jamie Guy on 21, Matthew Whitty taking a match-winning 8-17.
In Division 3 Alnmouth & Lesbury 2nds lost by six wickets away to Whickham 1sts. Thorstern Robinson hit 72 as Alnmouth posted 126-9, Matthew Rodger taking 5-18. Whickham were 127-4 in reply with Jeff Bowman on 41.
Warkworth 1sts had their game at Benwell cancelled due to the weather.
In Division 5 the games between Alnwick 2nds and Tillside 2nds, and Warenford and Monkseaton 1sts were both cancelled due to unplayable pitches.
In Division 6, Wooler’s home game against Howick was cancelled, as was Embleton’s home match against Ulgham 2nds.
Rock beat Warkworth 2nds by four wickets. Rhys James hit 62 as Warkworth made 165-8, Thomas Parkinson and Paul Roberts both taking three wickets. Andrew Bottomer hit 59 as Rock replied with 167-6, John Briggs jun taking three wickets.
