Only a few weekend games in the SG Wealth Management Northumberland Cricket League survived the weather, which continues to blight the season.

Table-toppers Alnmouth & Lesbury cemented their place in the league, with a nine-wicket thrashing of Corbridge.

Bowling first, the north Northumberland side’s attack absolutely ripped through the Corbridge batting line-up, skittling them for 36 in 21.5 overs.

Opener Christopher Fowler was out for a duck with the score on 8, and it went downhill from there as they lost wickets in quick succession with only David Smurthwaite (16) scoring more than four runs.

The pick of the bowlers was Ian Clough who five wickets for three runs in a devastating 5.5-over spell.

Ben Oliver took three for 13 while Paul Straker ended with figures of 2-5 off four overs.

In the reply, Straker was trapped lbw for a duck, but Ian Pearson and Peter Robinson saw the home side comfortably over the line in eight overs.

Fellow north Northumbrians Tillside fell to a 56-run defeat as they travelled to Stocksfield.

Batting first, the home side racked up 170 runs with several batsmen contributing useful knocks.

Pick of the Tillside bowlers was Matthew Whitty, who took four wickets for 22 runs.

In reply, Tillside didn’t get off to the best start slipping to 18-2.

There was a brief rally before three more wickets fell for five runs with Tillside in the 40s.

The north Northumberland side were then all out for 114 despite a 34 from 26 balls down the order from Iain Sim.

Gareth Wade and Andrew Wood both took three wickets for the home side.

Warkworth’s home tie against Blue Flames also made it to a conclusion, as they won by six wickets.

Batting first, Flames scored 150 alll out, in part thanks to a 35 from opener Rob Walker.

Pick of the Warkworth bowlers was William Pringle with four for 29 off 13 overs.

He was ably supported by Chris Younger who ended with three for 40 from his 13 overs.

The home side got off to a great reply with Pringle (38) and Keith Puddephatt (29) putting on 59 for the first wicket, as they chased down the total.
