Warkworth Cricket Club
The club held its annual dinner at the newly re-furbished Sun Hotel.
As usual, the event was well supported and the new management and staff of the Sun produced an excellent three-course meal, highly recommended and great value for money.
Guests were entertained by the ‘Two Curries’, Matthew proposing the toast and Ali replying.
Special mention was made of the club’s treasurer Ian Gray, who was on tour following the Ashes in Australia. His antics en-route to Australia in Bangkok were well documented but are probably best left to the imagination of the reader.
Outgoing chairman Tommy Hogg presented the awards to the prizewinners and a special award was made to Tommy himself by incoming chairman Phil Douglass.
Phil recounted that Tommy had first joined the club in 1955. He captained the First XI from 1964 to 1976 and the Second XI from 1979 to 1982. He won the batting, bowling and fielding cups on several occasions, was groundsman from 62 to 64, treasurer from 77 to 89 and chairman from 89 to date.
His contribution to the club both on and of the field was warmly acknowledged by all present who afforded him a standing ovation.
The club now look forward to next season and indoor nets will start early in the New Year, dates to be confirmed. All players, existing and new, are welcome.
