Straightforward win for Alnwick’s second string

Alnwick II v Chopwell II

Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division B2

Alnwick’s second team entertained Chopwell in their first home game of the season.

On winning the toss for the second week running, home skipper Andrew Stewart had no hesitation in asking the away side to bat first.

This paid immediate dividends as Jonathan Roxburgh bowled the visiting skipper Tams first ball of the game and then held a return catch in the same over to leave the visitors 0 for 2.

Roxburgh continued to cause havoc, removing two more of the visiting batsmen in his hostile spell of seven overs, 4 for 6.

Replacing him at the Rugby Club end was youngster Ryan Kelly and in his first over he claimed his first senior wicket, bowling Kendall, which left the home side in a perilous position at 25 for 6.

Chopwell made a mini recovery thanks to a quickfire 14 from Eadington before all fell for just 49 in 25 overs.

Andrew Barker bowled throughout the innings from the pavilion end with his leg-spin, picking up respectable figures of 12 overs, 2 for 32.

In reply, Alnwick opened with the experienced Michael Brewis and left-handed youngest Laurence Reeves and this partnership had no trouble knocking off the required runs in 11 overs.
