An action-packed St George’s Day feast of amateur boxing action will be staged in Alnwick, it has been announced.
Alnwick Amateur Boxing Club has unveiled details of its Boxing Bonanza, which will take place at the town’s Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre on April 23, from 7pm.
The show is set to feature a busy card, with a mix of boxers from the host club and further afield. Club chairman Gary Pattinson hopes the event will be a knock-out success.
He said: “This really will be a bonanza of boxing and we would love to have a massive turn-out. The venue holds around 500 people and we would love to have it full.
“We are hoping to have nine or 10 of our club boxers on the show, while we are aiming to have boxers from clubs from the likes of Glasgow, Bristol and Plymouth, as well as the Tyne, Tees and Wear region.”
The club opened its doors in 2012 and is now working in partnership with Active Northumberland, which Gary believes is a big boost.
The Willowburn event comes on the back of two successful home shows run by the Alnwick club, the first of which was held in Alnwick Castle, before last year’s event at The Alnwick Garden.
Tickets are set to become available for this year’s spectacle within the next two weeks.
Advanced entry will be priced at £12, while admission on the night will be £15. VIP tables of 10, which will be positioned around the ring, will cost £150.
Sponsorship packages are also on offer. These are bout sponsor (£50), official sponsor (£40) and doctor sponsor (£40). All sponsors will include mention and/or company logo in the event programme.
When the tickets go on sale, they will be available from the leisure centre or the club, which is based at Alnwick’s St Thomas’ Close workshops.
