Season’s end is within sight

Rothbury Bowling Club

THE 2011 season is now almost over, with just a few end-of-term events still to come.

Bill Butters will host his President’s Day on September 18, followed by the annual presentation dinner on the 23rd at Rothbury Golf Club and the club agm in the clubhouse on September 25, at 2pm.

On August Bank Holiday Monday, the Annual Open Triples took place, with 32 triples competing for the title.

The winners were the St George’s triple of A Docherty, G Parker and J Curtis, who saw off the challenge of the Kelso trio of J Cassie, W Bell and G Lee.

Losing semi-finalists were Tom Proudlock, Alan Robson and Bob Cairns from Rothbury and the mixed-club rink of J Potts, R Greenshields and B Butters.

This is a very popular event and thanks went to Norman Martin, the organiser, and to Ryecroft Glenton and Portland Financial, who sponsored the event.

2011 has not been a particularly good season for the club’s league teams, although it did retain its place in the Second Division of the Clegg League.

It was disappointing that Rothbury were unable to make it three wins in a row in the North Northumberland League, having won the title in 2009 and 2010.

Internal club competitions have now been completed and the winners are as follows – Men’s Championship: Barney Calam; Ladies Championship: Joanne Oliver; Logan Cup: Chris Cairns; Wanless Rose Bowl: Tom Proudlock; Marshall Cup: Tom Dixon; Harry Scott Trophy: Tom Dixon; Club Pairs: David Bolton and Tom Dixon; Jessie Heron Pairs: Bill Butters and Chris Cairns.
