Ritchie turns back the clock

SHILBOTTLE’S Ritchie Robson turned back the clock as he produced a vintage performance to become the new Alnwick Premier Darts League singles champion.

He took the honours in what was a thrilling competition, where he eventually beat Leon Belisle of the Blue Bell A in the final.

It was no easy road for Robson as he knocked out the favourite and reigning champion Ian Tate, as well as two-time previous finalist Sean Turner of the Oddies B, en route to the trophy.

There were some great games throughout the contest with Ian Donkin of the Fleece hitting a 180 and club colleague Vince Fife finishing in style with a 100 checkout against Peter Mark of the Market Tavern who once again impressed.

The only lady entrant, Camilla Marsh of the Market Tavern, went out in round one to eventual runner up Belisle, while Duy Lam of Alnwick Castle Golf Club played really well before going out in round three to Neil Masson of TeamDinga@GateB, who continued his recent great form when he made the semi-finals of the tournament, as he did last week in the league pairs the week before.

There were impressive displays from Bill Bradley, Dave Covell and Allan Wilcox among many others and previous winner Kev Fletcher of Alnwick Gate A made the semi-finals before losing to Belisle in a thrilling match.

But it was Robson’s night as he played consistently well and enjoyed some great support from his Shilbottle team-mates in a great spirit and thoroughly deserved his success.
