Rain affects majority of teams in cricket league

It was another case of rain stops play at the weekend with many games in the Northumberland & Tyneside league affected by the weather.

Alnmouth & Lesbury1sts away game at Lanchester in Division 1 fell victim to the weather with the match abandoned midway through the home innings. Lanchester had put on 163-4 in 37 overs, with Dan Noctra on 50 and Graham Britton 43 when rain stopped play.

In Division 2, Alnwick 1sts home game against Bates Cottages was cancelled, whilst Tillside 1sts started away to Cowgate, but again the elements intervened with the score on 55-2 in the 13th over, with Ross Hindmarsh on 20 not out.

In Division 3, Alnmouth & Lesbury 2nds managed to see their game through against Whitley Bay 1sts, winning by 12 runs. Simon Poole hit 56 as Alnmouth posted 211 all out, with three wickets each for Ivor Pearson and Bhavesh Sori. Whitley fell short at 199 all out with Pearson on 56 and Mark Harris on 44. Ben Oliver claimed a match-winning 5-33.

League leaders Warkworth 1sts saw their away game against GEMs 1sts abandoned just 15 overs in with the home side on 44-4.

Alnwick 2nds travelled to face Bates Cottages 2nds in Division 5, but the game only lasted seven overs before the rain fell with the home side on 31-4.

Tillside 2nds picked up a welcome win when they beat Warenford by six wickets at Etal. Brian Thompson top scored with 31 as Waren put on 95-9 in their 40 overs, Daniel Caddick taking 3-4 and Stewart Wright 3-11. Tillside took 26 overs to reach their target at 96-4 with opener Keith Bickerton on 44 not out.

Embleton won by 53 runs on their visit to Rock in Division 6. Gary Davison hit 47 as Embleton made 120 all out in 35 overs with Paul Roberts taking 4-31. Rock could only manage 71 in reply, all out in 31 overs with Hedley Grey taking 4-9 and Ewan Thorpe 4-17.

Warkworth 2nds won by a massive 220 runs against Ulgham 2nds. Knocks of 84 not out from Stephen Anderson and 82 from Graham Huitson saw Warkworth post 262-3 in their 40 overs. Ulgham were all out for only 42 with half their runs (21) coming from Steve Pace. Stephen Lambert took 4-6. Wooler’s game at Stobswood was abandoned.
