The point-to-point racing season returns to north Northumberland this weekend, with Ratcheugh Racing Club, near Alnwick, hosting its first fixture of the new calendar on Sunday.
The popular event sees entries from College Valley right through to the West Percy teams.
Despite heavy rain over the weekend, the latest course inspection, which took place on Monday, reported that the going is soft and heavy in places but that the three-mile course is ready to go.
Having attracted a healthy 92 entries across the six races, it looks set to be an exciting day for both spectators and competitors, with eight of last year’s triumphant horses returning to the Ratcheugh track.
That includes three-time triumphant mount Crazy Diamond and clerk of the course Tom Oates’ Dun Faw Good.
Within the entries are also many locally-trained horses.
Newton-by-the-Sea trainer Victor Thompson, who has had many successes at this venue in the past, has horses set to run, as does trainer Jessica McKie, of Lanton, who also notched up numerous triumphs here last season.
The first race kicks off at noon this Sunday. Entry for this event is £10 per head.
