Boxer Cyrus Pattinson has spoken of his delight after he put in a dominant display to secure an emphatic victory against a more experienced opponent at the weekend.
The 20-year-old from Alnwick showed his class to take a unanimous decision against Jack Rafferty, of Manchester-based Northside Boxing Club.
Speaking after his victory at Hordon on Saturday, Pattinson, of Birtley Boxing Club, said: “A lot of people from the Manchester area thought Jack would win as he is highly rated, but I managed to win comfortably.”
○ Alnwick Amateur Boxing Club’s Shea ‘The Celtic Kid’ McNeill took part in the regional finals of The English Boxing Junior Championships at Birtley.
Shea competed in the 54 to 57kg category and took on the three-time National Champion and European bronze medallist Mark Dickinson, from Birtley.
Shea lost the contest, but he fought to plan and put his opponent under constant pressure. Club chairman Gary Pattinson said he was proud of Shea’s performance and told the Gazette that other coaches congratulated Shea for his gutsy display.
