Talented Cyrus Pattinson avenged a painful defeat to be crowned welterweight GB Boxing Champion last night.

The Alnwick fighter beat fellow Englishman Connor Loftus, of Burmantofts ABC, to take the title at The GB Boxing Championship 2015, held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The victory ensured Pattinson avenged a heartbreaking defeat to Loftus in the final of the England Boxing Elite ABA Championships at the end of April.

Posting on his Facebook page after last night's bout, the delighted Team GB boxer, who represents Birtley, said: "2015 69kg GB Champion it is!! The GB Title is coming home! Fight get stopped in the third due to a head clash, but was well ahead on the score cards regardless! Can't express how I feel right now, avenged this year's ABA Final defeat to 2x ABA Champion and GB teammate whilst stamping my name once more deep down into those history books! Immensely thankful to my coaches, my sponsors, every bit of support and especially those that came to join me yet again on this unbelievably remarkable journey. To the top we go."

Last night's victory in Sheffield continues Pattinson's impressive 2015, which has seen him win the GB Elite Three Nations 69kg title and take gold at the prestigious Slovakia Boxing Club Triebel tournament.
