The Burgham International Horse Trials for 2020, will be held between July 23-26 near Felton in Northumberland.
This year the Trials will take place the weekend before the eventing competition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and will be a great place to get into the pre-Olympic spirit!
Burgham has quickly become one of the country’s most popular major horse trials and Northumberland’s premier equine event. It always features the top riders and horses — and there’s no doubt that some of Tokyo 2020’s medal favourites have competed there in the past couple of years.
It hosts international classes at CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S and CCI2*-S level, and a full range of national classes from open intermediate to BE90, offering fantastic opportunities for amateur riders to compete alongside their sporting heroes.
Event Director Martyn Johnson said: “There will be a real Olympic theme to Burgham this year.
“Burgham’s cross-country courses are celebrated for their exciting and challenging nature, and David Evans, designer of the CCI4*-S and CCI3*-S tracks is responsible for building the cross-country course at Tokyo 2020, so will be flying to Tokyo directly from Burgham.
“And Blyth Tait, designer of our CCI2*-S and national tracks, is an individual Olympic gold medallist himself, so Burgham 2020 will be where the Olympic party starts.”
This year the jumping phases of the international classes will take place on Saturday,, July, 25 while Sunday is reserved for national competitions.
Burgham will also hold Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse classes and British Riding Clubs senior and junior team competitions.
Other attractions include children’s entertainment, locally produced food, licenced bars and shopping.
