Once, twice, three times a ladies champion

Bamburgh Castle Ladies have had an unforgettable and unique week for the golf club.

Firstly, it was confirmed that they had won the North Northumberland League (played off handicap) for the first time for many years.

Secondly, the second team - in the Northumberland County League Division Six proved winners by a very large margin, and will be promoted to Division Five next season.

All the Northumberland League matches are played off scratch.

Then the first team beat Ponteland Ladies (who have dominated Division One for many years) 7.5 to .5 to put themselves in an unassailable position to win the First Division for the first time.

Bamburgh Castle is a comparatively small club in Northumberland but is unusual in having at least twice as many players in the Silver Division than in the Bronze Division – the reverse usually being the case in most larger clubs.

For a large number of members, Bamburgh is their second club and are not available to play for Bamburgh in the County League.

So only a loyal and dedicated 24 players were needed to field teams of five, seven and eight players throughout the season – so winning all three leagues is a magnificent achievement.
