No rain but still no play

DESPITE a rare rain-free Saturday fixtures were once again decimated at the weekend.

Heavy rain in the preceding days had left grounds saturated and accounted for the cancellation of Warenford v Rock, Tillside v Embleton and Howick v Warkworth.

Play was possible at Alnmouth and Lesbury’s ground at The Wicket where title contenders Mitford scraped home by nine runs - 159-6 (A David 31) against the home side’s 150-9 (J Dilnott 33, G Huitson 34).

Mitford’s victory saw them leapfrog leaders and champions Warenford who now find themselves eight points adrift with four matches remaining.

The only other match was at Wooler who kept themselves in the title race with a comprehensive 88-run victory over Berwick.

Scores: Wooler 196-6 (I Clarke 49, A Murray 49, L Porteous 33) Berwick 108 (D Wakenshaw 42, A Aitchison 4-15).
