New Development Division for Northern Alliance

The Northern Alliance Football League held their AGM last week when it was confirmed that 64 clubs will kick off the 2019-20 season.

This has meant the formation of a new division, the Development, which will comprise of 15 new teams, including local sides Lowick United and North Sunderland, who are both stepping up from the North Northumberland League. Newbiggin, who were last season’s NNL champions and completed a clean sweep in cup competitions, will go straight into Division 2.

Rothbury, who won the Alliance second division last season, have been promoted to Division 1, whilst Alnwick Town will continue to play in the Premier Division.

The Alliance league said: “The following constitution was agreed by the member Clubs at the AGM held on 19/06/2019:

“The Northern Alliance will include a record 64 clubs next season over four divisions, with a total of 12 trophies available. This is where the majority of Northumberland's clubs play, there are certainly exciting times ahead.”
