A track and field starlet has battled back from injury to book a spot in the finals of a renowned athletics meet.
Sophie Bronze, from Alnwick, finished sixth in the pentathlon during the English Schools’ combined event regional finals at the weekend.
She can now look forward to the national finals in September.
And the 14-year-old, who was representing Northumberland, is thrilled to progress.
“It is pretty amazing. The pentathlon was my first one back from injury since September,” she said.
Looking ahead to the nationals, the Duchess’s Community High School pupil added: “I’m going to train hard and try to improve my personal bests.”
