Plans to start a new boxing club in Wooler have taken a huge step forward, after the group was affiliated by the executive committee of the Tyne, Tees and Wear Amateur Boxing Association.

Glendale Amateur Boxing and Fitness Club is the brainchild of experienced coach David Milburn and the organisation will have its first session on Tuesday.

Held at Glendale Middle School, there will be two boxing sessions.

The first will be from 6pm for nine to 13-year-olds. This will be followed by the senior group from 7pm.

On top of that, the club will be holding a fitness boxercise session, courtesy of Active Northumberland, from 6.30pm.

The club will also meet on Thursdays.

David said: “It is great news. The executive committee of Tyne, Tees and Wear ABA had its meeting and Glendale Amateur Boxing and Fitness Club is now officially an affiliated boxing club. It has been a long road, but we are there.

“We held an open evening last week and it was very successful, with more than 100 people wanting to sign up to the club.”
