Forrest century sets Alnwick up for victory over rivals Morpeth

Alnwick CC celebrated a big 131 run win over rivals Morpeth in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League at the weekend.

David Forrest hit a splendid 112 and with Andrew Scott on 41 Alnwick managed to post a big score of 257-6 off their 50 overs.

James Craigs did most damage with the ball, claiming 4-38 for Morpeth, who in reply lost four early wickets and were left struggling after that.

Stefan Thompson hit a late 48 and Callum Law 25, but they slumped to 126 all out in 42 overs.

Alan Straker was the main Alnwick wicket-taker with 5-32 off his 12 overs.

In the reverse fixture Alnwick seconds were unable to emulate their 1st team and went down to a narrow one wicket defeat.

Harry Lobb hit 38, Bradley Spiers 32 and Joe Straker 29 as Alnwick put on 182 all out.

There were three wickets apiece for both Elliott Clark and Matthew Dodds.

Wahib Barakat then hit 67 and Clark a late 41 as Morpeth closed in on victory.

they finished on 187-9 in the 42nd over after Andrew Wright took 4-42 for the visitors.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 1sts went down to a 23 run reverse at the hands of Tynedale.

With Thomas cant hitting 67, John Meadows 63 and James Rainford 40, Tynedale managed to put on a decent score of 241-7 in their 50 overs.

Russell Hughes claimed 3-42 for Alnmouth, who in reply saw Paul Straker top score with 55.

Charles Anderson hit 44 and opener Hughes 37, but the last few wickets fell cheaply and the coastal visitors were restricted to 218-9 in their innings.

Cant and Curtis Lucas each claimed three wickets for Tynedale.

Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds also lost out to Tynedale, going down to a two wicket defeat.

Opener Peter Robinson hit a top score of 72 and with Andrew Hodgson on 44 not out they managed to set up 188-7 in their 45 overs.

David Newton took 3-43 for Tyneale, who in reply managed to reach 189-9, the winning runs coming with only four balls to spare.

Newton hit a top score of 62 with Euan Stephenson on 34 and Richard Byerley on 33 not out.

Lukas Robinson was Alnmouth’s most successful bowler with figures of 3-30 off his ten overs.
