Vaux Commemorative Trophy: Morning golfers suffered intermittent showers, while the afternoon starters played in an ever-increasing cool breeze, as the 20 pairs contested the Vaux Commemorative Trophy at Swansfield on Sunday. No less than four 2s from the Steve Miller and Simon Fuller partnership helped them to a 43pts better-ball victory over second-placed Russell Cook and Jimmy Cookson on 41. A point further adrift in third were Barry Farrar and Ray Holding. Playing in the same four-ball as the winners, there was some brilliant golf from the Miller/Fuller partnership. Together with a seemingly impossible approach shot to the 12th green by 17 handicapper Simon Fuller after he deemed his third unplayable in the root system of a huge fir tree up the left side of the fairway, he took a penalty drop, played the shot and sunk an unbelievable downhill cross green, 18ft putt for a nett six, rescuing a valuable point. His 13-handicap partner Steve Miller sunk three birdies, three pars, and three single bogies. There were three other 2s on the day from Gordon Johnstone, Barry Farrar and Peter Lewis.
