Thomson Tri Season Accumulator: A new season and a new trophy. The first singles competition was played last Sunday for the newly-donated Thomson Tri Season Accumulator. As the name suggests, it is a competition over three seasons; spring, summer and autumn, with the accumulated totals of all three stableford competitions deciding the winner. In the first of the three, Jack Friar sprung, if you will pardon the obvious pun, ahead of the field into first place with a magnificent 42pts in a round which included no less than five birdies and 11 pars. Not so close on his heels, but nevertheless in second, was Russell Cooke with 37pts and fellow postie Kenny Darlow fought off no less than three others on 36pts on the countback rule to secure third. No less than nine players shared the twos pot. With essential work being done on the bunkers making them all GUR and preferred lies still in place, it was declared a non-scoring competition for handicaps.

Thomson Tri Season Accumulator (Spring): 1 J Friar 42pts; 2 R Cooke 37; 3 KW Darlow 36.

Three Club Trophy: 1 Siobhan Sheehy 31pts; 2 Diane Cairns 28; 3 Anne Spence 27.

Winter Championship: The Club’s traditional final event of the winter season, the Winter Championship, was played on Saturday. Junior organiser Roy Wilson pipped the evergreen John Glass to take the crown and the JA Gray Claret Jug that goes to the winner.

Results: 1 R Wilson 81-18=63 (back nine); 2 J Glass 74-11=63; 3 K Henderson 72-7=65 (back nine); 4 J Allison 75-10=65. The 2s money was shared between J Allison and A Cunningham.

Summer course: Play has reverted to the summer course. Members please note that preferred lies will continue to April 1. Membership is open and costs just £240 from now to the end of the year. Juniors U18 can join for just £10 and this includes complementary coaching from a PGA professional. Staged increase for those aged 18-30. See
