Alnwick Harriers had a ‘takeover’ day at the Druridge Bay Parkrun on Saturday (February 4) where the vast majority of the roles were taken by club members, under the watchful eye of their boss and fellow Harrier, Run Director David Hindmarsh.
Despite the decent number helping out there were still some excellent performances from the Harriers taking part, not least from Carole Page, who made it a hat-trick of victories! Carole finished 24th overall in a decent field and first female in 21.50.
Other female performances of note were from Kim Redpath who was third lady home, whilst Mel Steer was winner of the female 45 category.
For the men, Peter Moralee was a very good fourth finisher, whilst Mark Douglas was ninth.
Results: 4-Peter Moralee 18.56 (68.13%); 9-Mark Douglas 19.46 (66.69%); 24-Carole Page 21.50 (84.05%); 31-Kim Redpath 22.59 (64.39%); 38-Robert Stephenson 23.31 (59.18%); 42-Mel Steer 23.46 (68.86%); 53-Paul Robinson 24.13; 111-Dave Coates 27.44; 159-Nell Gair 31.32; 200-Lorna Stephenson 37.55 (42.73%).
In other parkruns that day Rachelle Falloon was in action at Bury St Edmunds where she ran the fastest 5k by a Harrier so far this year, clocking 19.57 to finish fifth overall and second female. At Workington Richard Eastoe was 44th in 23.54 and up at St Andrews Jayne McKenna was 160th in 29.50.
Over in Spain Jocelyn Bolam was in action in the Almeria Half Marathon where she clocked 2.22.15.
Finally for the weekend Cris Atwell took part in the Winter Wonderland Marathon, a multi lap race at Newcastles Town Moor. Cris finished in 4.12.26, agonisingly just six seconds slower than his previous appearance in one of the races hosted by the North East Marathon Club.
* Alnwick Harriers are once again hosting their superb cross country fixture, part of the North East Harrier League series, on Saturday, March 4. The club needs as many marshals as possible to help out on the day! Help can be in the shape of setting up the course early that morning, marshalling during the races and tidying up afterwards. Or all 3! And remember there is the option to race and help out before/afterwards! Marshals will be fed and watered too.
To offer your services could you email Jocelyn Bolam, marshal coordinator for the event, at email@example.com. Please include your email address and mobile phone number.
* The Harriers’ 2017 subs are now due and due to an increase in fees from UK Athletics, the fees have gone up slightly to £26 for Senior members, £19 for those over 60, £14 for 2nd claim members and free for Honorary Life Members.
* The Brass Monkey Half Marathon got the 2017 Grand Prix season well and truly underway recently, when Harriers recorded some great performances and high WAVA scores.
