Mitford win but the race for title is still close

Table-topping Mitford firsts kept their title hopes alive with an important six-wicket win over Warenford in the Alnwick and District Cricket League on Saturday.

The leaders dismissed their opponents for 109, although Kevin Thompson put up a good fight, scoring 55.

Things are tight at the top though with just five points splitting the top two and second-placed Wooler kept the pressure on with an 11-run win over Alnmouth & Lesbury seconds.

Wooler hit 174-8 with Les Porteous top-scoring with 32.

Rich Neil took 3-35 for Alnmouth, who were then all out for 167, which included a knock of 38 from Callum Batey.

Michael Mclean (3-28), Andrew Aitchison (3-42) and Robert Matthewson (3-36) all impressed with the ball.

Elsewhere, Howick (215 all out) beat Rock (185 all out) by 30 runs, thanks in the main to a knock of 59 from Richard Elliott before a five-wicket haul from Andrew Marshall (5-17).

Craig Robertson was another five-wicket hero as his 5-11 helped Tillside twos (61-3) beat Embleton (60 all out) by seven wickets.
