Mission accomplished in tri-ing conditions

Alnwick Tri Juniors

Hot on the success of their inaugural triathlon at Darlington last month, four members of the Alnwick Tri Juniors competed against 100 other budding triathletes at the Hexham One Life Junior Triathlon on Sunday, at the Wentworth Leisure Centre in Hexham.

The race started at 8.30am and by the time the Alnwick Triathletes hit the running track, the temperatures had soared into the mid-20s, making the racing extremely hard.

However, the intense heat failed to stop all four determined youngsters from finishing and in addition, Jenny Bolam and Dan Fletcher both finished third overall in the Tristar Three girls’ and boys’ races respectively.

Two members of the club are currently training hard for the Castles Challenge Triathlon later this month being held at Bamburgh Castle, featuring an open water sea swim.

Results: Jack Douglas raced in Tristar 2 – a 240m swim, 3.25km bike and a 1.6k run with a total time of 21:18.

The other three members raced in Tristar 3 – a 360m swim, 5.2k bike and a 2.4k run; their times were: Jenny Bolam 30:15, Dan Fletcher 31:16 and Jack Carrigan 33:24.

Alnwick Junior Tri is open to boys and girls aged 13 or over with existing skills in all three disciplines who would like to compete in triathlons.
