A fund-raising commemorative cricket match is being played later this month in honour of two grass-rooots players who loved the game.
The contest is in memory of Tom Byers and George Parks, who played together at Amble Cricket Club.
Tom passed away in February 2009, aged 47.
He was a bowler. Tom also had a short stint at Warkworth Cricket Club.
George died last September, aged 71.
Like Tom, he was also a bowler and the pair occasionally opened the bowling at Amble.
George played for Red Row as a youngster and also had a stint at Percy CC.
The commemorative fixture takes place on Sunday, August 25, at Warkworth CC’s ground, starting at 2pm.
It will be contested between a Warkworth side and an Amble and Percy team.
A memorial fixture has been held before, in honour of Tom, but this year is the first time George will be remembered following his passing in 2012.
The game will be held in conjunction with the cricket club’s beer festival and raising funds for Wansbeck General Hospital’s palliative care ward.
