Magnificent seven success for the Seconds

Alnwick Ladies II...7 North Shields...1

ALNWICK Ladies Seconds were ready to burn off some energy after their Christmas lay-off, extended by the weather.

Shortly after the start, Lincoln took control and started the scoring (1-0).

Alnwick dominated the first-half play, with Lincoln getting a second by deflecting in a shot outside the D by Dawson. This was to be followed by a goal from open play by Dawson (3-0).

The strong defensive line of Pringle, Frew and Taylor protected rookie Richardson who was debuting in goal.

A swap of players saw young Fairbairn coming on for a stretch of legs.

Broom, playing strong and determined hockey as ever, worked well on the left, with McKeehin just missing out on a shot.

Broom, trying again, this time crossed it to Brown who neatly tapped it into the right side of goal (4-0).

After half-time, Pringle battled hard setting the ball up to Straker but the North Shields defence seemed to have woken up. They soon, however, gave away a short corner, which Dawson took advantage of to make it 5-0.

North Shields won a short-corner and slipped it in to make a mess of Alnwick’s clean-sheet (5-1).

Alnwick continued to be the stronger team, with Pringle getting the ball into Fornea, who angled it in (6-1).

The final goal from a short-corner came from Dawson to complete her hat-trick.

A great result for Alnwick, who take on top-of-the-league team Jesmond Parish Church I next Sunday.
