Alnwick Bowling Club’s last two representatives in the English Bowling Association triples and fours went out in the last few days.
Russ Dale, Ray Topping, George Turner and Dougie Miller were beaten 24-5 by a Peter Dawson four from Backworth and there was the crudest of luck in the triples when Michael Grant, George Turner and Dougie Miller were beaten by one shot on the Cramlington green.
Meanwhile, in the singles, George Batey had a walkover against Ian Brown of Backworth, John Hume beat Steven Pallas of Gosforth 21-11 and in a rain-interrupted match, which saw the players having to come back and finish off a tie started days earlier, Steven Harvey of Gosforth beat Michael Fairbairn 21-18.
The luck of the draw now sees the only two Alnwick players left in the singles, Batey and Hume, playing each other.
Alnwick scored a rare win in the Northumberland A Division keeping them in touch with others in the relegation battle when they won 6-2 against Ponteland winning by 55 shots to 44. In the North Northumberland League, Alnwick won at Seahouses.
