Low scores and a very tight finish

Bamburgh Castle (122) v Prudhoe (118-9)

Bamburgh entertained Prudhoe on Sunday and in an exciting game prevailed by four runs at the Castle Field.

Batting first, Bamburgh struggled against a determined Prudhoe side with only wicket-keeper Steve Robinson holding his own as wickets began to fall. He had some help from Michael Kirkup (15) and Andrew Wright (14), before he was finally dismissed for a determined 32, caught by Scott off the bowling of John Howden.

Bamburgh looked as if they were going to be dismissed for under 100 until some late resistance from Steve Mallinson (17 not out) saw the home side all out for 122 in the 37th over.

When Prudhoe batted, they also found runs hard to come by against the opening attack of Wright and Mallinson and, despite some middle-order resistance from skipper George Chamberlain (30) and Tom Irwin (22), were always behind the clock, finishing a tantalising four runs short.

Andrew Wright ( 3-19), Steve Mallinson (4-32) and Michael Kirkup (1-10 off eight overs) were the stars with the ball. Match sponsored by Pestforce.
