Alnwick Premier Darts League
A TALENTED teenager has become the first player from the APDL to earn county honours at the oche.
Steven Dunn, who plays for Division A high-flyers Alnwick Gate A, represented Northumberland B on Saturday night.
Making his debut for the county, the 17-year-old won his match 3-0 to the delight of the home crowd, as the county took on Shropshire at Marlborough Social Club.
Mick Miller, of the APDL, said: “There are some excellent up and coming youngsters in the Alnwick Premier Darts League and as a league we do all we can to support and encourage them with their development.
“Steven made his Northumberland county debut and won his match, to do himself and the league proud. Many congratulations to Steven who becomes the first player from the APDL to gain county honours.”
In what was a good week for Steven, the youngster impressed in the Alnwick Gate A’s whitewash of Oddies A on Friday night.
Steven landed a 154 finish during his side’s 7-0 league victory, helping them close the gap to nine-points on league leaders Alnmouth Village.
But the table-toppers also won, with a convincing 6-1 victory at George A.
Lone point scorer for the George was Mick Armstrong although Lee Harrison also hit a 100 finish for the home side.
Other Division A clashes saw Farriers A beat Fleece 4-3 while Alnwick Gate B beat Oddies B 6-1. Stu Knowles and Keith Bell both hit 180s while the Oddies were done proud by another of the league’s fine youngsters in Kieran Hogg, who won his singles match in fine style to record the Oddies only point of the night.
In Division B, league leaders Bell Bar B continued their fine form with a 6-1 away day victory at Alnwick Working Mens Club A. The table-toppers saw the gap at the top increase to nine points as second-placed Alnwick Working Men’s Club B lost 6-1 to Blue Bell A.
Bobby Dodds was the point scorer for the Club while L Belisle landed a 180 for the Bell. The division’s other two matches were closer affairs, both finishing 4-3. Bill Bradley hit a fine 104 finish for Tanners A as they beat George B, while Tanners B came out on top against RAFA Club.
The APDL continues tomorrow night.

l The Ian Whillis Memorial Tournament was held at the Alnwick Gate on Saturday and was won by current Welsh Open Champion Paul Jennings of Hartlepool.
It was a double entry competition and Paul won both halves of the draw, defeating APDL’s Peter Saunders of Alnwick Gate A in one semi and County Durham’s Paul Knighton in the other.
APDL players Hal Hegerty of the Fleece and Lee Harrison of George A both made it to the last eight of the competition.
There was a good showing from players in the APDL, amongst a very good field of players from all over the North East.
