ALNWICK Premier Darts League returned to league action on Friday after the Christmas and cup rounds break, and with no fewer than seven 180s hit on the night the action was back with a bang.

League leaders Alnmouth started the new year in fine form, enjoying a scintillating 7-0 victory over the Oddies A, Alnmouth didn’t drop a single leg in the match. Denis Williams hit a 180 and John Wilkie hit no less than three ton-plus finishes, championship form indeed from the Seasiders.

But credit to the young Oddies side, although outclassed they fought manfully and didn’t give up throughout the encounter.

With Alnmouth enjoying maximum success, Alnwick Gate A also needed a good result to keep on the pressure but alas it was not to be, playing away at the rapidly improving and difficult side, the Fleece, the Gate were roundly beaten 5-2, in what must surely be the result of the week.

Oddies B meanwhile were at home to the John Bull and, with J Reid, Sean Turner and Des Hope all hitting 180s, the Bull couldn’t respond and found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-1 result, with Julian Gibbs the solitary point scorer for the Bull.

The Gate B were at home to Farriers A and once again contrived to throw away a 3-1 lead to lose narrowly 4-3, but stunning form from Paul Robinson of the Farriers saw him hit two 180s on the night.

In Division B, league leaders Bar Bell B proved travelling to Shilbottle was no obstacle to their form when they won 5-2 away at the Farriers B.

But second-placed Alnwick WM Club B kept their momentum going with a hard-fought 4-3 home win over a plucky Tanners A side. Tanners B, meanwhile, were at home to Alnwick WM Club A and a 180 for J Carss of the Club helped his side to a 5-2 win.

In the final Division B match of the night, RAFA Club continued their pre-Christmas good form with a good win away at The George B by 5-2.

l The Ian Whillis Memorial Tournament will be held on Saturday at the Alnwick Gate, £7 entry with £500 added prizemoney. Registration by noon, games to commence at 1pm.
