Ladies’ top woods to beat Forest

AN Alnwick ladies triple won the Northumberland Benevolent Bowl on the Forest Hall Green.

The winning combination was Lynn Cook, Lilian Stokoe and Sylvia Taylor.

On Ladies Day, there was some excellent bowling and the winner of the four-wood singles for the Alder Cup was Sylvia Dale with Sylvia Taylor runner-up. The two-wood singles for the Edie Dunn Trophy was won by Carol Hume, who beat Vivienne Shepherd. The Lilian Payne Salvers were won by Susan Ratcliffe and Ann Daley who beat Margaret Wilkinson and Jo Lormor.

On Sunday, the club held the latest round of the TE Hall Triples competition and there was a disappointing entry with only eight teams. The winners were Dorothy Topping, Joyce Harper and Ray Topping (s).

In the men’s section, Alnwick bounced back in the Northumberland Bowling Association Clegg Cup League Division Two with a 14-0 win over Heaton Victoria, scoring 102 shots to 52.

In the Nines League, they came up against league leaders Backworth who are on form at present and lost 8-0 and by 51 shots to 35.

There was better news in the North Northumberland League with Alnwick keeping up their league title hopes when they beat Rothbury 6-2 on the Coquetdale green.

The ladies have been going well in their league with two 10-point wins against Morpeth and Benfield but lost out to Hexham, gaining only five points.
