Ladies surge into semi

Alnwick II...5 JPC II...0

THE second match in the double-header weekend was a Shield match. With a full-to-bursting squad and still buzzing from the day before’s win, Alnwick were raring to go.

The goal tally was kicked off by a pass by Dawson to Lincoln into the D. She took a strike on goal for 1-0.

Graham made some speedy runs on the right and gave Alnwick a couple of good chances to score. Despite some good linking play resulting in shots, Alnwick didn’t quite connect as a team in the first half.

After a motivational talk by Richardson, who, in goal, had time to analyse the play, the team were ready to pull together and support each other in the second half. This is exactly what happened and the results were instant.

A short-corner to Dawson was dribbled across the line, closely followed by a similar goal by Lincoln who was determined to keep her top goal-scorer position (3-0).

Even with a player down after Simpson got a flash of a yellow card, Alnwick continued to be the stronger team.

E Brown made a run from halfway to strike the ball in from the top of the D (4-0).

To finish, Dawson, who is close on the heels of Lincoln as top-scorer, took a strike from a short-corner to put Alnwick through to the semi-final (5-0).
