Juniors excel at memorial open

ANNE Marie Readshaw Memorial Open Meet April 22, Shildon

NINE junior Alnwick Harriers took part in the Anne Marie Readshaw Memorial Open Meet at Shildon on Sunday.

The torrential downpours they passed through en route to the track subsided and they were fortunate to have a ‘rain free’ afternoon for the competition.

There were some excellent results for the club in particular in the U15 Boys with Alex Tait collecting one gold and two silver medals in the high jump, 100 and 200m sprints.

Alex set a new club record for all three events clearing 1.56m in the high jump and running 13.00s and 26.71s in the sprint finals.

Owen Davidson also picked up a bronze medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.35m.

Peter Skirrow collected a gold, silver and bronze in the U15 Boys long jump, 400m and shot put with a personal best jump of 4.79m, 66.31s in the 400m and 6.48m in the shot.

Also in the U15s Adam Weightman ran an excellent race to finish third in his debut 3000m in a new club record time of 10m.22:53s.

Sophie Bronze collected gold finishing first in U15 Girls high jump with a jump of 1.45m.
