Alnmouth U15s (115-7) v Stocksfield U15s (61-9)
Alnmouth and Lesbury U15s clinched the Northumberland Junior League Championship this week by defeating Stocksfield.
The game saw Alnmouth, the North and Coastal League champions, play Stocksfield, the West and Central League champions, in the overall play-off final.
Alnmouth captain Cameron Batey won the toss and elected to bat. Positive batting and excellent running between the wickets saw Alnmouth post 115-7 in their 20 overs.
Top-scorer was Archie Elder with 40 and other useful contributions were made by George Lindley (15no), Lukas Robinson (14) and Joe Tudor (11).
Stocksfield started well and had posted 26 without loss when Olly Tulip struck having James Doneathy caught behind for 11.
Tulip struck again eight runs later when he caught and bowled Trott and when Lukas Robinson then had Luke Doneathy caught by Batey in the next over, Stocksfield were finding the going tough on 34-3.
The strength in depth of the Alnmouth bowling and the excellent fielding and catching (all six chances were taken), ensured Alnmouth then took control of the game and secured a comfortable 54-run victory.
Impressive bowling figures were returned by Robinson (3-6), Cameron Thorpe (2-9) and Ben Kelly (2-8).
This was the third time in five seasons that Alnmouth have been U15 county champions and with nine of this team still eligible to play at this age group next year, there may yet be further success.
