Junior Harriers collect a six-medal haul on day one

North Eastern Counties Indoor Track and Field Championships

ALNWICK athletes collected a total of six medals on the first day of the weekend’s Championship meeting at Gateshead International Stadium.

For some of the younger athletes, it was their first opportunity to experience a championship event and gain some valuable experience of how it all works.

New club indoor records for the U15 Boys were set in the high jump, with Alex Tait clearing 1.50m and for Peter Skirrow in the long jump with a leap of 4.51m.

In the U13s, Oliver Gillingham set personal bests in the high jump, long jump, shot put and 60m sprint.

Caitlin Butler-McEwan and Isabella Neri ran well in the U13 Girls’ 60m sprint and Isabella made an excellent debut in the 60m hurdles.


Saturday: U13 Boys’ high jump: 2nd Oliver Gillingham 1.05m (pb).

U15 Boys’ high jump: 2nd Alex Tait 1.50m; 3rd Peter Skirrow 1.40m.

U13 Boys’ long jump: 3rd Oliver Gillingham 3.45m (pb).

U15 Boys’ long jump: 5th Peter Skirrow 4.51m.

U13 Boys’ shot put: 1st Oliver Gillingham 4.07m (pb).

U15 Boys’ shot put: 3rd Alex Tait 7.66m; 4th Peter Skirrow 6.52m.

Sunday: U13 Girls’ 60m hurdles: 6th Isabella Neri 13.27s (pb).

U13 Girls’ 60m heats: 3rd Caitlin Butler-McEwan 10.59s; 4th Isabella Neri 10.88s.

U13 Boys’ 60m final: 4th Oliver Gillingham 9.86s (pb).
