WINNER: Alix Eastham – Swimming

SWIMMING sensation Alix described 2011 as ‘epic’ after winning the Junior Female award at the Sports Awards.

The Alnwick lass had a remarkable year, becoming East of Scotland champion at 50 and 100metres, as well as reaching the national finals in both distances.

She also represented the East District of Scotland team in the national GB Team competition.

She is ranked in the British top ten nationally in the 15-year-old age group for the butterfly stroke at 50m, 100m and 200m. Her highest placing is third in the 50m butterfly.

Alix is a former Alnwick Dolphin, who, in 2010, decided to swim in Scotland, but it is still the first time that someone from the north Northumberland club has attained British national times in any butterfly event.

But despite her achievements, she said: “I didn’t expect to get the Junior Female award. It is amazing.”

A possible star of the future, Alix’s aim for 2012 is to reach the Commonwealth Games’ qualifying time in order to make the team for Glasgow in 2014.
